Visual Scanning Exercises

Practice four distinct visual-search tasks directly in your browser. Follow an ordered number grid, locate one changing target at a time, match symbols among distractors, or alternate between numbers and letters. Choose a comfortable grid and prioritize accurate selections before comparing time. Results and optional personal history stay on this device; no account, upload, or remote profile is involved.

This is a general visual-search practice tool. It does not measure your visual field, diagnose attention, or replace professional eye or health advice.

What visual scanning means in this tool

Visual scanning here means moving your attention across a screen to locate a specified item. The activity records task selections and timing only; it does not measure eyesight, attention, or cognition.

Four exercise types

Ordered Search follows a number sequence. Random Target changes the requested item after every correct choice. Symbol Match separates a symbol from similar distractors. Alternating Search previews and follows a number-letter rule.

How difficulty changes

Larger grids add search locations. Symbol difficulty changes distractor similarity, while target drills can add more requested items. Compare results only when mode and settings match.

Time versus accuracy

A shorter time with many mistakes is not equivalent to an accurate round. The result keeps completion time, average and median target time, correct choices, and mistakes visible together.

Device and screen-size limitations

Screen size, zoom, pointer type, keyboard layout, and viewing distance change the task. A phone result and desktop result should not be treated as a controlled comparison.

Accessibility

Every cell is keyboard reachable, focus is visible, symbols do not rely on color, and high contrast follows the site theme. Target announcements are concise to avoid repeated screen-reader interruptions.

What the exercises do not diagnose

These drills cannot diagnose attention, reading, vision, or health conditions. Stop if the screen is uncomfortable and seek qualified advice for persistent concerns.

FAQ

Which mode should I try first?

Ordered Search at 4×4 is the simplest introduction; the other tabs deliberately use different task rules.

What is the hardest target?

It is the target with the longest recorded search interval in that round, not a statement about your abilities.

Are my results uploaded?

No. Saving writes a versioned attempt to this browser’s unified local tracker.
